Battle team for beginning trainers: Minun, Breloom, Absol, Lapras
For advanced trainers: Minun, Breloom, Absol, Shuckle, Latias, Lapras

Bio: Yip9 was born outside the Pokemon world; he arrived there by a teleportation device known as a Youzi Coin, which is an especial product of Yipyip Tundra, crafted from gold and crystallized fruit seed. Yip9's starter was a Squirtle, whom Yip9 has always called 'Squirtle.' Yip9 was commissioned by Professor Oak to assist in the development of the PokeDex, so Yip9 has set about catching one Pokemon of almost every species he sets his eyes on. He has managed to catch several legendary Pokemon, namely Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Dialga, and Latias. While Yip9 has a history of interaction with Pokemon not his own, he doesn't know other trainers well. When in Hoenn, Yip9 spent most of his time following his berry route, where he hiked and biked around the routes between Lilycove, Fortree, Rustboro, and Fallarbor; all roads lead to Mauville, and that is where all the stars end. In between fighting wild Pokemon and holding rematches with trainers along those routes, Yip9 and his Pokemon collected free berries from generous folk. Leaf the Chikorita especially liked the PokeBlock ingredient berries given by the Berry Master. While Yip9 considered Lapras, Latias, Pikachu, and Minun his favorite species of Pokemon, he throughly trained many different Pokemon, both to help them evolve, whereupon their data could further enrich the Pokedex, to explore the moves they could learn, and just because he liked them. Yip9 worked the Pokemon he trained quite hard. His motto in Pokemon training was, 'Bash your head against the wall until the wall breaks.' It was this drive to grind level after level, rather than skill, that enabled Yip9 to win all the badges and catch all the Pokemon he had. Yet Yip9 was rather nice to his Pokemon in that he gave them vacations to roam the region as they wished, trusting they would come back. Most of them do. If not, Yip9 would smirk and go to catch them again, however if a Pokemon seriously couldn't stand Yip9, he wouldn't imprison the Pokemon against its will, as shown in the case of Yip9's Mewtwo:
After exploring Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn extensively, Yip9 relished the thought of a new area. Before becoming a gym leader, he visited Pikachu's Point, Buizel Shore, and each of the island's towns and cities.

Appearance: Draped in a camouflage grey shirt with a grand white number nine pasted across the front, nondescript denim jeans, socks and sneakers, both a dirty white, he donned a black cap embossed with a white shooting star. His skin was Caucasian, eyes and hair brown; he stood 5'10.5" and weighed 170 pounds.

How he became a gym leader: After collecting all badges and defeating the Elite Four in Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, Yip9 desired to try something different: to be on the flip side of the coin, facing ascending trainers. A display of his prowess convinced the elite of the island that he would do well as a gym leader. Even if he were a pushover, he would show his competitors a good time.

Goal In Life: Yip9 aspires to befriend Pokemon, to grow as close to them as one could to human friends. He sees this as a fascinating experiment.
