Collin rounds the corner of the road, not paying attention to the surroundings of the busy town as he looks at the sites of the town wide eyed, awed by the wonders of other humans inventiveness, but with cautious, calculated movements as if also afraid of them. He's wearing a simple black waffle shirt and jeans with frayed edges, simple slip on shoes of a biege color adorning his feet. A Typhlosion trails behind him nervously, more comfortable around the many humans than Collin, but watchful as if afraid she might hurt someone. A bouncy little Umbreon chatters as it swings in circles around Collin's legs.

Based on their unnatentiveness to their immediate surroundings, I think they're going to run into you.

(If you need a bio on this Collin, just ask)

Two slightly younger looking trainers hurdle around the corner, obviously trying to keep close to Collin, but since there's such a big crowd around, they're having a hard time. (I'm imagining that they're in either Goldenrod city or Jubilife in terms of setting. Pick your poison :3)

One trainer has the hair and general figure of Wally from R/S/E (And he's supposed to be Wally) And he has a messenger bag slung around him that doesn't seem to belong to him. He's wearing a white thin silk shirt with blue dragons embroidered around the bottom, his shoes are mostly blue with white bottoms, and the laces are untied, and he's wearing black jeans. The second kid has wild white hair and wears general adventuring clothes (He's an exact copy of Ruby, without the headband right now). He's far behind Wally but he's catching up fast, and he looks completely annoyed. "Battle me now! I refuse to be ignored!" The words seem to be meant for Collin, but Collin ignores him completely as he trips in your direction.

Wally attempts to run forward and catch him, but fails as he trips over his untied shoes. "Collin! Watch --- OOF--- "

He runs smack into a trainer, knocking him onto his haunches. 'Uguu,' he complains. 'My rear is the ouch.' He gets up with a wince and offers a hand his fellow fallen trainers, hoping to help one of them up. This fourth trainer is wearing a long T-shirt colored like army camouflage except gray; across the front is printed a large white number 9. He's equipped with blue jeans with large pockets (although they can't be seen due to the length of his shirt, a slight bulge can be observed in the pocket area due to the items stuffed therein) and a black cap embossed with a white shooting star. He's bearing a trainer's backpack which strongly resembles the one carried by Ash/Red in Pokemon R/B/Y and it definitely isn't empty.

At his side is a vermilion-furred Vulpix. Group of klutzes, she thinks, although she refrains from verbally expressing her opinion of the situation. Instead, she braces herself and offers a paw to whichever downed trainer isn't pulled up by her trainer. Although a quadruped, she believes in her strength and balance.

(Arrrgh. Two characters named the same and one male and the other female. No offense intended, but there's a chance I'm going to confuse your Eevee and your trainer.)

The boy who wants to battle Collin notices you help Collin up, (I reasoned since Collin's the one who ran into you, he'd be the closest and you'd help him up) and immediately begins walking the other way, trying not to get involved in the situation. He's now removed from the picture. Wally is helped up by the Vulpix, and pats the Vulpix's head in thanks as the Typhlosion seems to scramble to Collin's side, attempting to dust him off and make him better. The Umbreon doesn't stop chattering at all, but merely sits in place and continues her story as she does nothing to help. Wally runs up close and checks over Collin frantically. "Are you okay? Collin?"

Now that you know his name, Collin rapidly bows and apologizes. "Sorry! I wasn't watching myself, I kind of spaced out. Are you okay?"

(I'm like that with my fan characters. The main character is named after me all the time. Sorry! But that will be funny if you get them confused.)

'I'll be fine,' says the trainer, dusting himself off and then making a slight bow in return. 'You're Collin, eh? My name's Yip9. What brings you to Goldenrod, jewel of the Johto crown?'

The Vulpix returns to all fours, looks up at Wally and smiles at him. Instead of introducing herself, she listens carefully to the jabbering Umbreon to see if she says anything worth the hearing.

Collin grimaces and tries to right himself. After a moment of thought he replies. "There's a battling tournament going on and they're inviting lots of trainers from all over. I got a letter from them to join, and I came to turn them down, since I don't know how to write." Collin seems to pause and think for a second, before he frantically waves and tries to redeem himself. "But I can read really really good! So it's not that bad... I don't think..." He puts a finger to his lip in thought.

The Typhlosion keeps behind him, attempting to remain as out of view as possible, but she's rather large for a Typhlosion, coming in at Six feet instead of the usual 5' 7", a head taller than Collin. The Umbreon's still busy chattering, "And she was all like Nuh uh! And I was all like, OH NO SHE DIDN'T! But he was like Uh huh! And then we were both like NO WAI! Seriously?! And he was all like YEAH!" It seemed to have been an interesting story, but unfortunately, it wasn't coming from the best story teller.

Wally looks forlorn after Collin seems to reject the battling. "But I wanted to see you battle Sensei!" Wally stops and thinks, looking you over. "Were you invited to come too? I wasn't invited, so I just came to watch." He stops and coughs for a bit, then pulls an inhaler out of his pocket and uses it, before stuffing it back.

'Horrible city air, isn't it?' comments Yip9, 'nothing like Fortree, the town nearest my Hoenn base. Verdanturf's even better. Ever been there? What's your name, by the way?'

'You're nice, infuriatingly so,' asserts the Vulpix in reply to Collin, 'You could have merely ignored the invitation.'

'What?' says Yip9 in response to Wally's question. 'There's a Pokemon tourney?' He scratches the back of his head and chuckles, 'Coolness. I had no idea. What brings me to Goldenrod, you may ask? It just happens to be my favorite city in Johto, with attractions ranging from the Underground - the Haircut Brothers rock, it's due to them that I have an Espeon - to the Happiness Rater, whom I was going to visit to see how much longer it would take for my Golbat to wuv me so it will evolve. I'd also get a kick out of hearing the Rater describe in pleasing detail my Espeon's deep love.'

'Egotistic baka,' comments the Vulpix.

'I'm also yipping curious about my Vulpix's current attachment,' continues the trainer.

'Or lack thereof,' dissents his Vulpix.

'No need to be sarcastic, Sabrina.' His eyebrows raise as he remembers something. 'Oh yeah, the tournament? I'm going to crash it. I'm sure they'll let me in if they see my Battle Frontier Pass, and if that doesn't cut it I suppose showing them my eight Johto badges will.'

"I've been there. I travel a lot, I picked this guy up in uh... Petalburg." Collin points to Wally, happily who smiles happily in response, nodding his head. "He heard about my traveling, and he needed to go to Vendaturf. He lied about staying there though, insisting on me teaching him about battling."

Wally interrupts in a bubbly matter, and challenges you in no uncertain terms. "Sensei's the best! He could probably wipe the floor with you! Just like he did to Palmer and Anabel at the battle tower!" Collin shoves Wally back and grins apolagetically. "I don't like to battle much, but lots of others say I'm great at it."

Collin puts a finger to his lip and thinks, casually replying to the Vulpix. "I guess I also wanted to come." Collin blushes and shuffles his feet. "I heard Jasmine and Anabel were coming here to watch, and I wanted to meet them."

"Ah!" Collin stands back up, and points to his Typhlosion and Umbreon in turn. "I should probably introduce you, this is Zaki, and this is Autumn. They also accept Cocao and Oreo respectively."

(So pokemon can talk in your idea?)

'Sensei,' Yip9 says the word in a joking tone, 'probably could. My Pokemon and I have only come as far as we have,' he smiles, 'winning a championship in three regions because we have a policy. We simply butt our heads against the wall until the wall breaks. That said, I would like to have a match with you, Collin. You should change your mind about the tournament. It would be fun to face you therein.'

'Your tastes are similar,' says Sabrina to Collin, 'Yip9 won't admit it, but he likes Jasmine too.'

'Sabrina!' cries Yip9, his cheeks coloring.

'Well met, Zaki and Oreo,' greets the Vulpix, 'I'm Sabrina and this Slowpoke is my trainer, Yip9.'

It's really funny, thinks Yip9, that Collin introduced to me his Pokemon but not his friend, although his friend does look awfully like someone I met in Verdanturf and again in Victory Road.

(I think we agree that Pokemon can talk with one another and Yip9 has been with Pokemon long enough to talk with them. Since Collin and Wally are trainers, I assumed they would be able to talk with Pokemon too.)

Wally grins and laughs with an I told you so until he wanders of to one of the many vendors erected during the busier than usual day. Collin sighs and drapes over. "I'm not attracted to Jasmine..."

Oreo bounces in and grins happily, letting her blue rings glow from her happiness as she attempts to embarass Collin. "Collin just LOOOOOOOooooves Anabel. I'm pretty sure he wants to take her as his mate when he gets older. (Anabel is Salon maiden anabel so you know.)"

Zaki seems off in her own thoughts as she continues to watch you. Collin reenters the conversation with a grin that likely means Oreo is going to die. "So Oreo, remember the duck." Oreo backs off and slinks behind Collin's leg her smile replaced with a scowl. "Anyways, I'm not planning on entering. I just don't like battling in general."

(We don't agree, I beleive that pokemon have their own languages based on breeding groups, and that Collin is only able to speak it because he ran off from home and was kept safe by a pack of Arcanine. So uhh... I'll go with yours though. It doesn't really matter anyways.)

"Stupid Psyduck can suck it..." Grumbles the Umbreon. "They shouldn't know stuff like metronome ayways. Is it my fault if I need to bite something and not want it to explode?"

A loud booming voice over some kind of announcement device calls out. "ALL TRAINERS REPORT TO GOLDENROD UNDERGROUND FOR THE TOURNAMENT. THE BATTLES WILL BEGIN IN THIRTY MINUTES!"

"I guess we should get going then, we're going to need to be there soon aren't we?"

'Bought your stuff at the roadside stall, dude? Then let's get going. Hmm, you look very familiar. Does your name happen to be Wally?' asks Yip9, not having been told the lad's name in their introduction.

'Why is the tournament being held in the Underground?' asks Yip9. 'I'm unsatisfied. In a grand city like this, it should be held somewhere less dingy and more honorable and well-polished.'

'Well-polished?' mocks Sabrina. 'What is this, a shoe?'

The party strolls down to the underground. There is a line to register, but it's less long than you'd think. Sabrina strikes up a conversation with Oreo, which entertains the party.

'Well there, my fine fellows,' greets the clerk, 'may I see your invitation to the tournament?'

'I wasn't invited,' begins Yip9, 'however...' he shows the clerk his Battle Frontier Pass.

'An interesting card. What does it mean?' asks the clerk, never having been to Hoenn.

'You don't recognize it, eh?' says Yip9 in dissatisfaction. 'Then how about this?' He fiddles inside his trainer's backpack and removes a silver two feet by nine inches ribbon to which the eight Johto badges are attached.

'You're the real deal, sir. Welcome aboard.' He pins on Yip9's shirt a Meganium-engraved badge, symbolizing Yip9's place as a tournament competitor, then turns to Collin, asking, 'Will you be entering the tourney, young man?'

Anabel and Jasmine wave from inside the building, each one smiling, though jasmine is more shy about it. Anabel calls a good luck out to Collin, who waves back and wears a pleasent grin. "Yes, I beleive I will. I got a letter, which is right..." Collin digs an envelope with the same symbol on it out, and shows it to the person, who hands him the same, though this one is a Typhlosion. "You'll be reporting to entrance two then I see. Other sir, you'll be reporting through entrance one. The match ups will be on the board. Good luck, and have fun."

Collin enters with Wally unoblivious, though the clerk pulls wally back. "Do you have a pass?" Wally wriggles out of the grip and bows. "Many apologies madam. I'm with Collin." The woman let's Wally pass, dazzled by his fine manners and speech.

When you go inside, there's a large electronic board overlooking a massive stadium with the names of the two battling trainers on. There is no one you know battling currently, so you are invited to sit in the front rows to watch the battle.

What's with these two? thinks Yip9. Jasmine actually remembers Collin, who said he didn't like battling, but is now entering the tournament, and that dragon-emblazoned guy still won't tell me his name. Yip9 scratches his head. Maybe Collin changed his mind upon being cheered for by that girl. I wonder if she's the Anabel he was talking about?

It'll be interesting to see how many Pokemon each trainer is allowed to use, thinks the shooting star-hatted fellow's Vulpix. I hope it's six. Yip9 fights much better that way. Also, it'll make things nice, long, and drawn-out. I wonder how you're supposed to have fun in a serious manner. The run-of-the-mill answer should be 'don't sweat it.'

Kunisaki Hiroshi vs. Yume Sayuri

Kunisaki shouts, 'Monstrous Killer Cow Zagdirth, forward!' The Tauros charges toward its opponent, angling for a Horn Attack.

A Pachirisu, nicknamed Kurata, turns to Sayuri, who smiles at it. A orb of flourescent green light surrounds the Pachirisu.
Spark
Kurata turns back to face Zagdirth and zaps into it, bristling with electricity. The Monstrous Killer Cow receives the static electricity, turns flourescent green for a second, and flails its legs while the Pachirisu goes flying.

'Monstrous Killer Cow Zagdirth, regain thy focus,' commands Kunisaki. 'Twirl 'em!' Zagdirth rear-ends Kurata, spinning its three neckties in a Tail Whip.

Kurata flips upright and looks at Sayuri, who nods. The Pachirisu places its paws on its cheeks and shivers, glistening yellow.
Spark
A brilliant yellow sphere emenates from Kurata; it leaps up, touches its chest to the bull's tails, and discharges. Zagdirth bowls over and kicks its legs at the air.

"So what's your name?" Wally asks. "You were right about mine actually. Pretty weird. So you ready for this? Three on three can be hard if your team isn't balanced enough." Collin's too busy thinking and strategizing to pay attention to the match, but he's more than responsive to Autumn's endless questions.

Zaki sits quietly, trying not to draw attention.

He wasn't listening when Collin and I introduced ourselves. Funny kid, thinks Yip9. 'I'm Yip9,' he says aloud. 'Three on three is tough. I wonder if they let you keep your six Pokemon on you and choose which three to use over the course of the match. I hope so. So you happy Sensei decided to battle?'

Fighting normal-types is tough, thinks Sabrina. Their normal attacks are 1.5 times stronger than those of other Pokemon and you never know when they'll lash out with a special attack of another type.

Without looking at Sayuri, Kurata jumps, aiming to land on top of Zagdirth.

'Monstrous Killer Cow Zagdirth, reverb,' instructs Kunisaki. 'Secret Technique!' The Monstrous Killer Cow suddenly gets up, throwing the Pachirisu to the ground. 'Stomp!' The hapless Pachirisu is done for.

Sayuri's mouth twitches and she recalls Kurata, the tractor beam of the Poke Ball zipping Kurata out of reach of Zagdirth's hoof immediately prior to impact.

Kunsaki grabs a microphone. 'Hey everybody.'

The crowd goes wild, cheering, 'Kunisaki!'

'Love and peace!'

'Kunisaki!'

Sayuri laughs and sends out her Absol. 'Go Mai!'

Kunisaki praises his Pokemon, 'Grandiose, Monstrous Killer Cow Zagdirth. We'll save your energy for later; retreat!' The fellow switches his wild bull species for a -

"Go Gigantic death lizard Rognif!" A Charizard pops out of the ball with a roar, and when he stomps his foot, a small tremor happens.

"This will be over quickly, Mai, Perish Song!"

Zaki and Autumn respond by covering their ears as a deathly cold dirge emenates from the Absol. The singing continues with an echo, and persists in the feild.

"Hustle Gigantic Death Lizard Rognif! Flamethrower, bathe the feild in your glory!"

The gigantic dragon let's loose a large blast from it's mouth that washes over the inside of the stadium. Sayuri is protected by the ruled barrier that a judges gardevoir forms, but the Absol is not so lucky. Though it is not lethal, the Absol emerges smoking and singed.

'Isn't this requiem lovely?' Sabrina asks Zaki during the Perish Song.
'What's with her?' mutters Yip9, feeling gloomier as the song echoes.

Mai glances at Sayuri out of the corner of her eye and Sayuri tilts her head to the right. The field turns pitch black.
Night Slash
Three gleaming pearl arcs swoop down at the 'zard at a 45 degree angle. The Absol's Super Luck activates, scoring a critical hit.

'I can't see a thing,' complains Yip9.
'Are you afraid of the dark?' inquires Sabrina in a spooky voice.
'Are you?'
'No,' answers Sabrina. As soon as she speaks, the light and colors of the area return to their normal brightness.
'She is not afraid of the dark,' chuckles Yip9. 'The dark is afraid of her.'

Kunisaki: 'Hail, Gigantic Death Lizard Rognif. Thy sight has returned. Fascinate the world in orb of vermilion!'
The Gigantic Death Lizard uses Fire Spin, intending to entrap Mai in a whirlwind of flames, but the Absol neatly jumps out of the way.

Sayuri smiles prettily and claps twice. A gray four point star flashes out of the Absol's eye.

'Gigantic Death Lizard Rognif, place the finishing touch,' announces Kunisaki, 'Fire Blast!' A terrific blaze pours out of the fire dragon's mouth, which would fry the Absol like the Colonel's chicken, if not for

Detect
which allows Mai to somehow dodge the entire blaze.

'Alas, Gigantic Death Lizard Rognif, you have met your waterloo,' mourns Kunisaki as the Perish Song takes its toll, 'but no matter, 'twas a valiant effort.'
Mai, having used only two moves since her Perish Song, is free to retreat without fainting. Sayuri and Mai exchange a hug, then Mai exits in a swirl of scarlet photons.

Apparently some part of the match has occurred before our trainers arrived, for the judge taps his gavel. 'Although the Absol was free to be recalled without fainting, Miss Yume has already used all three of her Pokemon and two were defeated. The Absol would have had to remain out of its ball to face Kunisaki's Tauros, and thus would have suffered the Perish Song's effect next round. The match goes to Kunisaki!'

'Hip hip huzzah!' roars Kunisaki in delight, throwing his hat in the air and all his adoring fans go wild and throw their hats in the air too. Kunisaki sends out Monstrous Killer Cow Zagdirth and they tap-dance for joy.

"I'll try not to get in the way Ryu~" A Raichu pokes his head sleepily out of Collin's bag, and leaps out and at the ready. Autumn and Zaki wait at Collin's sides, and Zaki takes a pair of pom poms out of Collin's bag, beginning to twirl around. Autumn attempts to dance and wiggle around, and ends up tripping Zaki over.

Ryu takes his place in front of Collin, leaning forward and stretching out, likely just waking up from a nap.

Collin begins dancing around to the supposed rythm of the spinda himself, and the Raichu follows his movements. "Ryu Ryu~ Aim for the win~ Let's fight with a bang~"

The Raichu understands Collin's unusual speech enough to let a blast of thunder around himself that rings around him protectively, before exploding into a shockwave that races along the ground.
