Berrymate

It was a mild summer day where Kaiyu the silleh Pikachu sat in the grass chomping along eating a whole full of berries. Of course these didn't happen to be just normal berries but some of the rich and tastiest berries that the Pikachu could gather. Such rich berries had a rich scent that flowed through the air for at least a mile. A long mile.

Such a long mile of berry scent could not go undetected by everyone's favorite Chikorita. Her eyes popped, her head-leaf reached for the sky, and she burst like a fired cannonball in the direction of the the scrumptious smell. 'Berries!' she squeaked in childish glee. 'So many and so tasty. You do want to share, don't you, Mr. Kaiyu?' asked Leaf eagerly.

"Uh...Sure," Kaiyu said, looking down at the Chickorita. He then handed the bowl of berries over to the Chickorita. "You really like berries don't you?" Kaiyu asked, stuffing a couple of berries into his mouth. He didn't really look at Leaf while he talked.

'Yaup~' chirped Leaf happily. 'Berries are the best thing ever. Why do I like them so much? If you're the only other person to know, don't tell me. I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band.' Instead of diving into the bowl of berries, Leaf observed them carefully to note the species.

It was an assortment of berries native to the area. The names were not something that I know. Kaiyu merely shrugged at the Chickorita's odd behavoir and continued eating his berries. He didn't look very happy.

Leaf selected an Aspear Berry, a Wepear Berry, a Chesto Berry, a Cheri Berry, and three Pecha Berries. It seemed the Chikorita had quite a sweet tooth. She ate them slowly, rolling them around in her mouth and savoring the flavor, just as she taught anyone who would listen to do. Noticing Kaiyu's downhearted appearance, she asked, 'What's wrong, Mr. Kaiyu? How can you be sad while eating berries this delicious?'

"It's nothing important," Kaiyu said as he stuffed another handful of berries into his mouth.

'Indeed,' agreed Leaf. 'Nothing is as important as enjoying your berries.' She selected a few more of the same species of berries, for she was a picky little leaf head on this occasion, and ate them with a gourmet enjoyment.

Kaiyu shrugged and didn't correct her. He knew enough about Leaf's personality that anything he tried to explain would go nowhere with her. He also on the same token didn't want to admit something that he didn't believe, so he just stayed quiet and let the young Chickorita stick with her thoughts, and munched at a couple of berries.

(Hmm. These two don't seem to click well. How is the story supposed to progress from this point?)
